Privacy Policy
Five O'Clock shows where in the world the clock has just passed five. It is free and shows one banner ad, which a one time purchase removes. There is no account and no sign in, and the app never asks for your location: it works out the time in each city from the time zone rules built into your phone. This page covers the Android and the iOS app, which behave the same way.
What the app collects
- Usage data. The app reports how it is used to Amplitude, an analytics service: that it was opened and for how long, the first launch, the city you cheered or shared, error messages you saw, when the remove ads offer was opened and whether a purchase went through (never the amount), and the revenue each ad earned. It also sends three settings: quiet mode, the hour you count to, and whether ads are removed. Amplitude adds the device model, the operating system and app version, the language, and an approximate country and city that it works out from the connection. The reports are tied to a random identifier for the install (on iOS, Apple's identifier for apps from the same developer), never to your name, email, phone number or advertising ID. You can turn this off at any time under Settings, Usage data. Where the app shows the ad consent form, nothing is sent until you have answered it.
- Advertising. The Tour screen shows one banner ad from Google AdMob; the main screen never shows an ad. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the US states with their own privacy laws, the app asks for your choice with Google's consent form before any ad is requested, and you can change it later under Settings, Ad privacy choices. On iOS the app also asks Apple's permission to track; saying no still shows ads, just not personalised ones. Depending on your choices and your device's ad settings, Google may use the advertising ID, the IP address and device information to show and measure ads, under its own policies.
- The remove ads purchase. The purchase is handled entirely by the App Store or Google Play. The app never sees your payment details; it only learns whether the purchase is owned, so it can hide the banner and restore the purchase on a new phone.
Data the app keeps on your device
Your settings and your passport (which cities you have stamped, and when) are stored only on your phone and are never sent anywhere. A share card is drawn on the phone and goes only where you choose to send it. Settings, Start the passport over erases the stamps, and uninstalling the app removes everything it stored.
Third parties
These services receive data as described above, each under its own privacy policy:
- Amplitude receives the usage data. Amplitude privacy notice.
- Google AdMob serves the banner and the consent form. Google Privacy Policy, and how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play) process the remove ads purchase.
Nothing is sold, and the developer shares nothing with anyone else.
How long data is kept
Usage data is deleted from Amplitude 24 months after it arrives. Google keeps the advertising data under its own rules, set out in the Google Privacy Policy above. Apple and Google keep the record of the remove ads purchase for as long as your store account exists, so it can be restored. The passport and settings stay on the phone until you delete the app or start the passport over.
Deleting your data
Everything on the phone goes when you uninstall the app. To have the usage data for your install deleted from Amplitude, write to the address below and it will be removed. Turning off Usage data in Settings stops anything new from being sent.
Children
The app is not designed for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used it, contact the address below and the usage data will be deleted.
Changes
If a future version ever changes any of the above, this page will be updated with a new effective date before that version ships, and the change will be noted in the app's release notes.
